Michel "Meshach" Nestor
Biography

Michel “Meshach” Nestor hails from the small village of Choiseul in the south of St. Lucia , in the Caribbean . He was born on August 25, 1969 to a family greatly involved in local St. Lucian Festivals. As a result he grew up in a rich musical environment.

His father who was a folk singer and guitarist, and his mother, who plays the African Drums an extremely important instrument in St. Lucian culture, influenced him. His dad exposed him to Country and Western music as well as Calypso. Meshach also grew up listening to Rock-n-Roll, Pop, R&B, Soca and Raggae and the Nyabinghi Drums.

Meshach started singing from a very early age and he and his brothers made their first musical instruments from tin cans and fishing line. They would get together with their young friends, in their backyard, and make music well into the late hours of the night.

As a teenager, Meshach not only realized his talent for singing and songwriting, but he also began to find his spiritual guidance in Rastafari. He began looking for mentors like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Jacob Miller. As he grew older, he developed a strong spiritual faith in Haile Selassie I.

In addition to his musical talent, Meshach also discovered a love for dance and spent two years with a St. Lucian dance troupe, “The Afro Caribbean Dancers”. His dancing experience is apparent in his performance on stage.

His rich voice and charisma have thrilled his audiences over the past six years. He has been compared to greats such as Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Jacob Miller. It is difficult to actually put a label on Meshach for he has his own original style. He is anyone his audience wants him to be.

Meshach, in addition to constant lyric writing, guitar playing and reading the Bible, finds time to plant vegetables on a small plot of land behind his home in Choiseul . He also loves horseback riding and playing football in his leisure time.

Meshach is affiliated with Raggae band “Wevolusion”, which was originally established in La Fargue, Choiseul . He is one of the main founding members. The band is presently based in Castries , St. Lucia and is comprised of nine members, with Meshach as the bandleader. In addition to composing music, lyrics writing, singing and playing the guitar, Meshach has also assisted in the production and arrangement of his releases.
